Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Description of Site:

Doceri is a course management / digital whiteboard tool where teachers can present course content and material from the iPad. These digital lessons can be recorded and shared with students and other educators. Unfortunately it cost $30 for a license. There are not any ads. Doceri has remote desktop control and can be used to publish to the web. Screencasts can be created on imported objects such as pdf's, word documents, background images, etc. There is a save and edit option. Doceri is perfect for use in schools at all grade levels.

Educational Uses of Site

I have found that Doceri interactive whiteboard application can be very beneficial across the educational setting. Teachers can present lessons from anywhere in the classroom for students to view and see. Lessons can be prepared ahead of time with playback features. Teachers can take snapshots of class notes and post them on blogs or twitter. Students can work on the Ipad and display their work from their seats, especially if they do not feel comfortable enough being up in front of the class. Teachers can display student work by taking pictures of their work for the class to view and discuss. I believe that it can serve as a learning tool in today’s digital world.

Flipped classrooms can be created where students can watch teacher-created lessons, and more class time is freed to further investigate, elaborate, review, and practice the new concepts introduced in the tutorials. Doceri is definitely user-friendly and can be used for students to create videos of their work in order to demonstrate optimal learning. Furthermore, teachers can easily manage classrooms to monitor student progress, and fluently upload lessons for students to view. With regards to school funding issues, there are other similar application that are free, and can be easily applied to classrooms if and where Ipads or whiteboards are present.

Review of Site

Doceri is a very powerful Web2.0 software applications because it has the capability to remotely access the teacher’s desktop computer without mirroring the iPad with an Apple TV. Teachers or students from anywhere in the classroom can utilize the Doceri software to run other applications from the desktop computer such as a powerpoint presentation or to just simply navigating the web. Also, teachers can simultaneously record their lessons while writing notes or elaborating curricular content through other desktop computer applications all while being projected for the entire class to see. Teachers can share there lessons with students through social media like Facebook and Twitter.
